Collins Hemmingway will be the speaker

“So Little Friendship: How Mrs. Smith Reveals the Writer’s Art.” This presentation uses the situation of Mrs. Smith, the poor widow, to crack open, one by one, major writing puzzles in Persuasion. These questions bring forward important insights into the writer’s art and where Austen was in the writing process when she ties off her last work. The presentation contemplates her treatment of several important characters and explains why she makes the choices she does. The talk is part analysis of Austen and part explanation of the art of novel writing.

The theme will be Jane Austen “sequels” sometimes called fan fiction
We will have a pot luck tea party celebrating the birthday of Jane Austen (she was born on Dec. 16) at the home of Carolee – please message us for the address if you need it.
